Susie doesn’t read books about dinosaurs.

That’s not like Calvin to just throw away a book about dinosaurs, is it?

yeah, Calvin, screw paleontology!

This is funny when you know that even though we think of hadrosaurs as weak prey animals due to their lack of armor compared to ceratopsids or ankylosaurs, they were MASSIVE beasts (some of them were the largest non-sauropod dinosaurs), and a fully-grown individual could almost certainly defend itself from a tyrannosaur.

Calvin got it wrong – what he is the T-Rex. Susie isn’t an iguanadon (I think) she is clearly Giganotosaurus

Didn’t the book mention that the most dangerous beast is the Susiesaurus?

Calvin could learn a thing or two from Primal… if he manages to see it without his parents finding out.

At Calvin’s age, girls are stronger, faster, and a lot meaner if they want to be.

Calvin would never throw away a comic book. Especially one about dinosaurs. This strip is a total misfire…

Watterson’s so good at drawing emotion on faces he can do it on dinosaurs.

I remember thinking the first time I read this comic, many years ago, that in panel #7, Calvin has a look of sorrow and regret on his face, not fear. That he actually realized that his action against Suzie was terribly wrong he was ashamed of himself. Therefore, he went home and threw away his dinosaur books. After reading it again, I am convinced that is what Bill intended and he is giving us a rare glimpse into Calvin’s human side. It is not a misfire, but a revealing look at Calvin.

Susiesaurus is better at retaliation, alright.

If Calvin continues to insist on learning by experience, he really needs to pay attention. Every time he tags Suzie, she demonstrates her ‘more forceful’ side and he gets the worst of it. But, he just can’t resist another shot.

Role playing can be a lot if fun, Calvin. But don’t mistake Susie for an NPC.

In real life, 70 million years or so ago, that smaller dinosaur would never run off a T-Rex. Of course, it’s Susie vs. Calvin, so, OK.
