Kind of reminds me of a problem my “friends” had (some of them, anyway) in the sixties when everybody and his brother were on “therapy”: after a fit of unlovely behavior, some would promptly reel off the the orthodox psychiatric explanation for such behavior, which apparently was supposed to excuse it, when the better course of action would have been to knock it off, not rationalize it.
