If translation programs become good enough, we could all have our different languages.

We all could use a babel fish. (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reference) However, knowing what a person says does not help us actually understand each other any better.

Whatever happened to Esperanto? And, for that matter, the metric system? None of the 5th Grade predictions are coming true! What this world needs is a Baby Boomer Nostradamus.

Trout’s a true American. Anyone not understanding American English can go to Hell.

I have been traveling internationally since 1969. Amazing how American English is taking over as the main language to know for travelers. It didn’t used to be like that. Sadly, most Europeans speak it better than Americans.

    not everyone understands our language

we stopped by a big box appliance store the other day and the smiling clerk turned to my wife to answer the question that i’d just asked. she didn’t ask my wife for clarification. she replied to my question. just not to me. because, of course, gaijin (foreigners) don’t speak japanese. even when they do…

if i had ¥10 for every time this has happened i’d be a very wealthy man…

English has become a universal language both types.
