This is just too funny. Open to many interpretations. Is Rose drawing the birds to Amelia by her whistles? Will Spud ever learn that he’s his own worst enemy? Wallace the dreamer, and Sterling the realist. And though they almost always criticize Wallace, they always follow him on his adventures.
I love these silent strips but I especially love this one for showing the kids and seagulls personalites off well: Seagull is apparently telepathic, Sterling wants some brid dinner, Rose is happily enjoying the bird song and the culture, Amelia is just.. resigned to being a birds nest, Spud is in active crisis due ot being 80% crumb and wallace wants a giant falcon to ride. It’s also small stuff like this why I ship (in the kiddy "hold hands and skip way) as their like.. 8), Rose and Wallace. While their personaliteis are complete oppisite they agree on the simple things.. and honestly he needs someone to keep him from jumping off the cliff while she needs tiny moments of joy like this. Also that cliff is not metaphorical, if snug harbor has any sort of cliff or large enough hill Wallace has tried jumping off it. Guaranteed.
Amelia’s dilemma could be her red hair. My daughter’s would sometimes be woven into bird nests we’d find after storms, in hanging flower pots, or by chance. We decided the birds must have wanted her natural cast-offs to decorate their nest with. Maybe Amelia’s hair has a similar appeal? (Okay, red hairs are thicker than other colors, so possibly they’re just easier to spot from up in a tree, but I’m not telling my daughter that.)

There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared!—
Two Owls and a Hen, four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard.

There was a Young Girl with a bun,
Who said, "This just isn’t fun —
Two Twits and Nerd, a Feral One and a Sea Bird,
Have built a birdhouse using my bun."

So lovely. The little birds feel so safe with Amelia that they go into her hair and they want to take Spud into their wonderful secret world.

Rose needs a field guide! Or does she already know what species they all are..?

You need meat if you want to attract a roc or a giant eagle.

What a great portrait of the young cast of “Wallace the Brave”!

A perfect summation of character personalities. What about Mom, Dad and the teacher? Sasquatch and Gary might be interesting as well.

Life is so complex when you’re Spud. Poor Spud!

Great characterization. Of course the Seagull is a follower so no thought balloon necessary ‘cause he’s following.

Wallace should join Voltan from Flash Gordon.
