No, Abby’s right, they shouldn’t break protocol and forego the interview just because it’d be more convenient because A: it reeks of favoritism, and the fact both Stewart and his mom are clearly expecting it irritates me, to say nothing of the standard it sets for the future, where such favoritism would be expected again, allowing for the potential of using it for personal exploitation. The fact they’re using the desperation of the others for a receptionist to get an easy in is technically a form of exploitation in of itself.
And B: they haven’t actually proved she’s the right one for the job, as they’ve only gotten a taste of what she can do and is clearly done “for the cameras” so to speak anyway, to make her look extra good. There could still be a hidden shoe waiting to drop hidden in there that would make her less ideal that an interview could easily either outright reveal, or at least uncover warning signs of its existence. That’s why the interview process exists in the first place, so you can have a chance to check candidates for things like this and you aren’t just assuming their right at face-value like Stewart and Mother Dear are clearly expecting here.
Do it on a temporary basis, like if they went through a temp service. That way they can “test” her out for a set amount of time. She passes, then she gets the job.

Now, about your personal lives… A little ‘motherly’ advice.

You already know her, and she can do the job. Why bog things down with an interview just because “you’ve always done it that way”.

Give her the job, Abby. Clearly, she couldn’t be worse that the ones you hired!
