I know a high school that changed its motto from “The Fighting Scots” to “The Fighting, Friendly Scots.”

“Beat a dead horse” becomes “feed a fed horse”, and “kill two birds with one stone” becomes “feed two birds with one scone.”

I wonder if principal Hightower is related to Jim Hightower, the populist talk show host and columnist from TX?

On a radio show in the mid2010’s, I heard about the ridiculous language police alternatives to common phrases to make them less violent or offensive. Kill two birds with one stone, alternatively feed two birds with one scone was the most memorable. Looked it up and there was the list of others: jump the gun- start too soon, overkill- a bit excessive, deadline- due date….

Honestly. I don’t think you need to be a member of the w0ke reactionaries to wince at this.

Still, I remember earlier than that, I heard a two word phrase (which might be on a ban list) from an Uncle Remus story being declared racist, and in one context it can be. Just as the Spanish word for black is both legitimate and considered offensive elsewhere. But the Uncle Remus thing, I thought of it as a metaphor for a problem that gets worse the more you try to fix it. I think we’ve all had situations like that; me in a misdirected car repair. I can’t think of an effective alternative without stumbling through an awkward phrase.

All I know is that my NP’s (Narcissistic parents) over-reactions to unoffensive words, actions, and attitude not to mention confused looks and efforts at kindness- an effort to set a better precedent and an example of how I’d like to be treated, were all received with rabid-literally snarling, hateful ranting accusations and unreasonable demands which made me too scared to talk, not knowing what to say, even to my new born.

I’m in my 60’s and finally healing.. feels SO good!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
