While the difference here is between robbing a bank – repeatedly, and returning to a store to pay for an item you accidentally took, Biden saying it is irresponsible to have top secret documents at your private office is, deservedly, coming back to bite him.
Unsaid in all of the right wing commentary is their (inferred) recognition that Trump broke the law. Biden is welcoming the investigation, Trump continues to fight it.
So, Biden critics/Trump apologists, the assignment is: write a minimum 5-7 paragraph essay that “Compares and contrasts the classified documents and the methods used to secure said documents”. You may use a Venn diagram to assist you in your prewriting. Due at the start of class tomorrow.
False equivalence. Yes, it is irresponsible to lose track of classified documents. It is criminal to take them and claim them as yours.
If a rational adult makes a mistake, that person owns up to it, apologizes, and makes arrangements to ensure it doesn’t repeat. A criminal refuses to follow the law, denies possession when in fact he/she knows full well that that is a lie, defies court orders and directs his/her goons to take out law enforcement.
I moved out of a rental house and forgot to empty one closet. Didn’t realize all my winter coats were gone until the next winter. But if those coats had been in my residence the entire time, they surely wouldn’t have gotten misplaced, and I couldn’t claim that I didn’t have them.
Otherwise, the documents issues that Biden and the Dotard face are one and the same. Par for the course for Mr. Payne.
Trump was wrong in the way he handled this situation, no doubt. However, Biden, the administration that promised transparency, did basically the same thing. The only difference is his minions reported as soon as they found the documents. The only problem is the documents were found on November 2nd and not reported until now! Perhaps the mid-terms had something to do with that.
Zaid said that if Trump had returned all the missing documents when the Archives first requested them, that would have been the end of the matter. It became a criminal matter “only because Trump and his lawyers delayed at first and then obstructed,” he said.
Prosecutors have asked a judge to hold Trump’s representatives in contempt for not fully complying with the subpoena, according to the New York Times. …
The initial stages of a documents investigation by the Justice Department often are not public. In the Trump case, the Archives first requested Trump turn over missing documents in May 2021. The investigation did not become public until the Archives announced nine months later that it had obtained 15 boxes from Trump.
The Biden investigation became public after about two months, when CBS News first reported it.

They were in his office. He left them BEHIND. When they were discovered they were immediately turned over.
Trump took them HOME. When they were discovered, he returned SOME of them, but LIED and said he returned them all.
Do you know the difference between TAKING something and LEAVING something, Henry?

A dozen or so documents (at least so far) is hardly a “hoard” compared with what Drumpf kept at Mar-a-Lago.
