My two youngest granddaughters took a group pic with the local baseball team mascot, the older one had a “bang-daid” on her left knee. Two weeks later took another pic at a park and the youngest had a “bang-daid” on her right knee. Cute pics but those two were hey-all on wheels when it came to scrapes, bumps, and bruises! Tru story!

Placebo effect. My son was a great believer in the power of kissing boo-boos.

What happened to the good ol’ days when little kids had owies or ouchies or boo-boos?

Back when I was still teaching, I once cured a headache with a Superman bandad.

Bandaids are pure gold when treating cuts and scratches on toddler and preschool children, stopping all crying and pain,

but will also unexpectedly cure many things for which they’re not intended.

The daycare where I once worked had a huge supply, but the teachers tended to offer them only in cases of actual bleeding.

    I was an aide…. A part-time job for a college student.

I gave them out more freely, and became the go-to person for bruised knees and bruised feelings.

Even if I couldn’t see a mark on the child, covering the pretense of a wound with a timely bandaid stopped pain, tears, jealousy and rage.

Joey got a band-aid and you didn’t? Oh no.

Poor baby. Show me where it hurts.

    Magic.

A few years after I’d left the preschool, they came out with colored bandaids and then printed ones.

A Superman, Mickey Mouse, or rainbow bandage will cute absolutely anything, even invisible wounds, or unexplainable tears.

My 4 year old niece, knowing I had some rainbow bandaids in my purse, demanded one for a cold.

I put it on her forehead. It helped.

My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter sometimes covers her legs in band-aids not because she’s hurt but because she thinks they make you feel better.

I worked in a pediatric hospital for several years. After they gave us flu shots they put Disney Band-aids on them I felt like a moron wearing those.

A mom was walking her two children. One fell and hurt himself. His sister started crying louder to make sure he didn’t get more attention. I ran inside and got the bag of Halloween candies because this required emergency chocolate therapy. Mom needed some, too.

When the county health department was giving out the first couple rounds of COVID vaccines, they used Spider-Man band aids for everyone. Must have gotten a donation, I figured. I loved it.

At that age, she probably wants the reassurance that someone will help her if she’s hurt. So good job. And banging the knee is no fun, and when you get older and taller, all the more things to bang knees on.

I give 2 to 7 year old children their own box of band aids for each Birthday. It is precious to see them and their friends play so happily. Parents have a hard time getting them out of the children’s hair though. A child will stick a band aid anywhere. For me, they are called Bang Dangs.

Oy, this kid is so cringingly “cute” and she can’t manage to get one single word pronounced correctly, ever. So we’re to believe she constructed that pun all by herself with her tiny brain? (I thought she was trying to say that the bandage had killed the bang: “Bang dead (daid)” … that would be moderately more believable!
