My old dog has to go to the Vet every 5 days. He knows when the time to leave is so I mix it up. I can usually pull it off until my better half starts talking to him in a higher pitch baby voice and he heads for his kennel. She just feels sorry for him and I guess she can’t stop herself from that voice.
The current series is okay, but the original series from the 1980s starring Christopher Timothy, Peter Davison, Carol Drinkwater, and the late, great Robert Hardy was better. The books by James Herriot are excellent, too!
I have watched both and love the old one because of Peter Davison, who was on it pre–Doctor Who and post Doctor Who. Like the new one because of the new Helen.
Think the only PBS show I watched in the past 15 years was the recent Groucho Marx/Dick Cavett documentary; gloriously entertaining. I’ll watch anything that has Groucho performing.
The dialect is a bit easier to understand in the new series, especially for those of us in the colonies. Technically the new series is far superior, but he old series has a real charm about it that I still enjoy.
For some folks, everything is either/or. This is a both/and situation. Book, 1st, 2nd series all very well done and enjoyable. The variations just make it all the more interesting. If all three were the same, why bother, it would be redundant.
It’s a great show – well done with a good cast and spectacular scenery. Books and film media are two different hings and should be enjoyed as such. A film is someone else’s interpretation of the book you read – and interpreted AS you read. That doesn’t make it less than or more than, just different. It’s kind of like having a discussion about a book you’ve both read, but remotely. If you choose to keep the book to yourself, that’s OK. I like finding out how someone else sees the book.
All Creatures is a great show. The library has every season on DVD, so I could catch up to the current season. I had never seen it until recently, I watched the first few minutes of an episode and turned it off so I could see it in order.

I saw the first series and read the books and a few years later was in med school in Edinburgh, “Mr Herriot’s,” home town. I had the opportunity to take a tour of Yorkshire and saw the real town and the real Skeldale House. By tha time his grandchildren were running the practice. The new series is great as well. Even has an Oscar winner in the cast.

Is Janis good at stopping hemorrhages? Has Luddie ever explained things to Arlo?

I’m sure it’s a wonderful show as most PBS series are, but I’m not watching because I don’t want to disturb my fond memories of the 1978 version.

Just the mention of the word veterinarian and Luddie said " I’m outta here".

Try something with Sir David Attenborough. Especially his shows about birds. It works for our cats.
