So a thimble is in prison. What’s the joke? Anyone?

There must be a thimble explanation for this, but it’s beyond me.

I don’t get it either.

This is really a reach, but the only thing that came to mind for me is that Popeye was developed in a comic strip named Thimble Theatre. He was introduced many years into the strip, but quickly became the most popular character. Maybe this thimble has bigger plans in mind. First goal is to get big arms to break out of that cell. ???

Is this a Monopoly board game piece going directly to jail?

He’s gotta keep up his strength, that needle keeps jabbing him with every stitch!

Maybe he got fingered to the cops.

He got caught throwing his last few thumb wrestling matches.

He went directly to jail and did not collect his $200.00

Clever and imaginative interpretations, everyone! My only problem is that none of them explain why this is funny. For example, if it is somehow connected with the Monopoly token and the Go to Jail space on the game board, what’s the joke?
