Want to give a speech as well, Calvin? “I’d like to thank my tiger, Hobbes, for his artwork!”

I can envision Calvin standing by in anger as Hobbes accepts the prize.

And then, Dad will get a patent for Hobbes’ work so that Calvin can’t even brag that he did it!!

And then, Hobbes will move out of the “two-bit dump” and go live in his own place with Susie’s stuffed bunny.

    And then,,,

Hobbes’s comment “I’ll draw some stars to show pain and human suffering!” reminds me of an Oor Wullie comic strip from a Scottish newspaper called The Sunday Post. I have detailed this strip before but I will do so again as it makes good use of how stars can show pain in a comic strip:-

Wullie, a Scottish schoolboy, turns down an offer to go roller skating with his “sometime girlfriend” Primrose Patterson. “No time for lassies.” “Your loss. You don’t know what you’re missing!” A blonde schoolgirl asks Wullie to roller skate with her. Wullie is smitten by the blonde and accepts this time. Primrose thinks “Two-timing wee nyaff! I’ll sort his hash!” Primrose hides behind a fence and trips up Wullie. In the first panel of the last row, Wullie was seeing stars from his fall and a tough-looking boy was saying to Wullie, “What were you doing with my new lass, Doris?” Wullie replied, “Your lass? Ooer!” The middle panel showed some more stars and some English and Scottish words – THUMP! CRUNCH! SKUD1BLOOTER! BATTER! BANJO! The last panel showed a battered and bruised Wullie with a lump on his head, a black eye and a sticking plaster between the lump and the black eye. He was seeing more stars, of course. Primrose was bandaging Wullie’s arm and saying, “Not bashful? You look well bashed to me! Ha! Ha!”

Oysters are eaten while they’re still alive.

Calvin is putting his horse before his cart. He should be paying attention to what Hobbes is drawing, before he dreams about how to spend the prize money.

Jawbreakers & comic books all for $5, huh? Perhaps one of each (based on the inflation back when this was first published)?
