Reminds me of George Burns, quoted as saying, “Sincerity – if you can fake that, you’ve got it made.” (Had to look it up. GB’s active years were just slightly before my time.)
I draw a line between having a friend and an acquaintance. I have very few friends and those I do have, I trust completely. A sign I saw once read: “I’d rather not have any friends than have a fake one.”
Brutus is smarter than we think. If you act in love toward others – even if your heart isn’t into it – they usually reciprocate and soon you have real friendship
If a person is a true friend, you can be yourself without faking anything. They’ll accept you as you are, warts and all. Be yourself, and be patient, Wilberforce. You might not have a lot of friends, but the ones you have will be golden. It’s not the quantity of friends one has, but the quality.
He was oh so close. That’s the advice you would give to someone wanting to go into politics without adding the additional requirements of being selfish, self-serving and having so-called knowledge of the issues. He needed to add the Golden Rule, “Treat people the way you would like to be treated under the same circumstances”, also. Friendship will follow…..

That one reminded me of an old Pink Panther cartoon when he was explaining manners. He said: “Be Polite, Always Be Polite”. . .

The Bible speaks often about encouraging each other. Ephesians 4:29 and Proverbs 27:17 for example.

Spot on Brutus. Sincerity, second thing preachers and politicians learn to fool folks with. First thing is lying. Ref TV preachers.

Marketing. Sales, HR, Barista, etc. Faking sincerity is relatively easy. It’s the extended sigh after ‘they’ have left. That’s why it’s called work.

“So, would that be ‘sincerely insincere’, or ‘insincerely sincere’?”
“Yes.”

good advice… it also helps to get your foot out of your mouth when you say something you don’t really mean it.
