Used to take forever just to decode the cryptic “Men” and “Women” symbols hip restaurants used to put on their restroom doors—-problem being, if you need to use them, you don’t have forever.
Unisex or family would be better words to use. There are some of places that have male, female and family restrooms and the family one has a lock. Makes sense to me.
The new terminal building at NY’s LaGuardia Airport has several small clusters of “restrooms”. There’s Men, Women, Family, Meditation, and yes, even a Pet bathroom.
A sandwich shop had two single-person restrooms, one for men, one for women. When it was sold, the new owners took off the “Men” “Women” placards. They put up a Bible verse: There is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
What about smaller stores that alwayshad a one room restroom for all people, and no one ever batted an eye, before the current discussion, when they needed to use it. The label of the door was, and still is, “Restroom”.
That restroom not only is used by any person — child with mother, woman, man, plus it has accessibility bars for people with mobility issues, and later they even installed a changing table…etc. …
In real life: It’s thanks to the “crazies” out there who want to pick a fight where none is warranted.
when i first arrived in japan many years ago it was a coin flip whether you’d encounter someone of the opposite sex when entering a toilet, no lock on the door. somehow we survived the trauma. times have changed and we now mostly have separate toilets for men and women, but the cleaning crew is still nearly always women and the cleaning lady always waits until i decide to use the facilities to start cleaning…

Uh, no. “All-gender” restrooms always have locks on the door. This is the second strip in a row where the bathroom needed a lock.

Rick and Jerry must have kids. This is such an authentic strip.

I remember a radio commercial with a young kid saying, “Are you a member of the opposite sex, or am I?”
I never figured Home Depot or Walmart to go the all-gender route. “Family restroom” yes.

I used one at GenCon. It was a lot cleaner than the men’s restroom. Of course men are disgusting pigs.

If they had signs for all the gender identifications currently out there, the door would like the back of a well traveled VW Microbus.

You’re one part, Hammie. Now, go see if the restroom is occupied, and don’t lock the door if you aren’t sure you’ll be able to unlock it.

I think all single stall bathrooms should be any gender. I’ve seen it with shared ones, though, and it’s pretty uncomfortable.

The grocery store I shop at has locks on the bathroom doors. (Flower depart. lady gave me the combination.)

You’re 1 gender. That sign just means anyone can use it.
