So…all of you feeding and paying Vet bill for those cats you don’t own? Time they started doing it themselves! ( good luck with the schooling)

Our crazy weather continues….67 on Tuesday, SNOW on Wednesday. Queen should get the snow late Wednesday. This is the big one they’re telling us.

    Today is:

NATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY Of course, we all love our pets EVERY day! We don’t need a special day for that!

    PRESIDENTS DAY

    NATIONAL LEADERSHIP DAY

NATIONAL COMFY DAY. I plan on staying comfy! My day off. I should do a little housework, but I’ll spend a chunk of time working on my latest jigsaw puzzle.

NATIONAL MUFFIN DAY. Well, I could bake some muffins, but I was planning on baking cookies. Or maybe I should bake brownies instead!

NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY. That’s funny – the jigsaw puzzle I’m working on is a picture of a pie. Come to think of it, though, it’s an apple pie. There are a few apples in the picture too, so that’s how I know it’s an apple pie. But I could just pretend it’s a cherry pie just to celebrate the day.

I know I don’t own any cats. I share my house with 15 cats, but they are family, not possessions.

By the way, I touched both Annie and Panther at feeding time Sunday night. This was the third night in a row that I touched Panther. But the first 2 nights, I got in full strokes down her back. This time, I barely touched her. But I still win a point for the touch. And two “Ha Has” on Annie because I touched her twice. And two “Has” on Annie because she touched me twice. I was surrounded by other cats, petting them, then I reached out a finger to Annie and she stretched out her neck to sniff my finger and her nose touched my finger. That happened twice. I don’t feel I win a “Ha ha!” with that touch, but I’ll give myself a “Ha!” instead for each of those touches.

From yesterday’s comments to meowlin who said, “Underfoot (my second cat, back in the late ‘70s) and I had a deal. I went to a thrift store and bought a cheap sofa – also bought the matching chair. I used the chair as its maker intended, but propped the sofa on one of its arms in a corner. ’Foot could climb and scratch on that to his heart’s content – he never touched any of the other furniture, including the matching chair.”

Underfoot is an interesting name for a cat. I considered a similar name for a cat once. I’ve mentioned this cat here before. He belonged to the next door neighbor and he didn’t like living with them. This was many years ago when my parents were still living. That cat kept getting out of the neighbors’ house and he’d walk in our house like he owned the place. We started putting him out, saying, “Sorry, but you’re not our kitty.” but he was persistent and we gave up and let him come and stay in the house all he wanted. He gained weight eating our cat food. They fed him a cheap store brand food and he was too thin. Later, they moved away (we were happy to see them go) and they left behind the cat. He was probably in our house when they moved. They named him Ebony. I considered calling him Tanglefoot because he was always underfoot. But then I imagined calling him in the house when we let him out. “Here, Tanglefoot! Kitty, Tanglefoot!” That sounded like too much of a mouthful, so we called him Pest instead. No insult intended. It was an affectionate name. He was a great cat. Very loving.

To Happy, Happy, Happy, sorry to hear your client won’t be able to return home. But in my opinion, Hospice beats the hospital hands down. Yes, I know Hospice only accepts people who are not expected to live. If I remember correctly from when my Uncle Edward was in Hospice, they only take you if you are expected to live less than 6 months. My uncle wasn’t doing well in the hospital toward the end of his life, so we moved him to Hospice. He improved there so much that they kicked him out, giving him Hospice care in his home instead. After he fell down at home and could not get up, he was returned to the Hospice center where he later passed away. But he was comfortable there. Much more than he ever was at the hospital. I’m sorry your client isn’t able to return home. But I hope he gets the kind of care there he needs. The kind my uncle got in Hospice care. You did all you could for him. There are just some things we can’t fix. This was one of those things.

Annie looks very pretty today. And the lady she is talking with is right. You don’t own cats, they own you and you have the privilege of spending your hard-earned money on them.

How true that is. Of course, being owned by a cat can be quite nice. On another note, saw eight juncos, two golden crowned kinglets, a robin, and a squirrel while out walking today.
