From Lynn’s Comments: Folks at the syndicate told me the American newspaper editors would all change the Canadian spelling of “racquet” to “racket.” Surprisingly, very few did. Maybe it’s because “racquet” sounds better.
I think they are referring to the basement as a “crawl space.” Our house has a crawl space; the gap between the underside of the main level floor and the dirt. In some places our crawl space is about 8 feet high; in other parts it is about 4 feet high. Some houses have crawl spaces barely two feet high, thus the name crawl spaces.
My earliest memory involves a birdie. We were at a summer cookout hosted by a friend of my dad’s, I toddled across the lawn and found a birdie lying in the grass. I don’t remember what if anything I did with it.

Why is it that comic strip mothers are always doing laundry (or carrying laundry) when their kids talk to them??

So is Mom dropping the freshly dried clothes onto the waterlogged flooded basement floor carpet that needs to be replaced?
