Had a friend whose young cat kept bothering for attention and I’d push it a way with my foot. It definitely want my attention so it scampered up my pant leg, t-shirt, and on to my shoulders. Leg, chest and shoulder looked like I had been the main course for a hoard of bedbugs.
Cats are much better at massage therapy. “Treading” or “kneading” is that left-right, pushing in and out motion that cats do with their front paws on soft surfaces — like a pillow or a lap — before they settle in for a nap or cuddle. It’s often compared to a dog’s habit of turning in small circles before lying down. Possibly it is a habit formed when they are kittens. The same rhythmic motion is used when kittens nurse — pushing in and out to get more milk. Possibly it is a nest-building motion or a way to mark territory (cats have scent glands in their paws). Possibly it is a motion that helps them wind down. Regardless, cats and kittens do it when they are calm and content. Normally, and especially if their claws are trimmed, they don’t “poke.” The claws are not fully extended as they are when they climb and need to support their full weight.
“Catupuncture” I had one cat who would balance on my back while I was on my hands and knees. As she was kneading my back I could tilt and direct her to different areas. It would have been “viral” on the Internet but in those days, you just told your friends who wouldn’t believe you. :)

I know a few people who love acupuncture. I only tried it once for my spinal back pain.

Dog nails stepping on my bare feet are an adventure, too. Right up there with horse tails in my face/eye.

My two have never done that to me. I explain that I have to get up and, believe it or not, they actually get off my lap so I can get up.

Only those pluggers who don’t trim their cats’ nails properly and regularly.

In the words of my sister, Janet, “Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. Must trim the claws, must trim the claws.”
