    Lots of trona is mined in the US these days (that’s the mineral that gets refined into sodium carbonate) but most of the rest of the world is still using the Solvay process to create it in industrial plants.

    Trona, or soda ash, is mined in Wyoming. Baking soda makes banana muffins fluffy and also makes awesome volcanos.

    I once did a site visit to a potash mine where you could be fired for bringing sunflower seeds or nuts on site.

    Little-known fact: It only takes a 10-Mule Team to get Baking Soda, while it takes a 20-Mule Team to get the more Alkaline, Borax…
