Poor Ginger! The strip says “Bed Kelly” but the best I can determine is… it should have been NED Kelly. ‘Edward Kelly was an Australian bushranger, outlaw, gang leader and convicted police-murderer. One of the last bushrangers, he is known for wearing a suit of bulletproof armour during his final shootout with the police.’ (Wikipedia) Ginger is going to get a very bad grade!
Mick Jagger and Heath Ledger (and apparently many others) played Ned Kelly in movies over the years, and garnered enough attention in the U.S. that I had heard of him, but I’d never heard about the suit of armor before.

I’m assuming “Book Week” is an Australian tradition since I’ve never heard of it.

Terry Pratchett’s “The Last Continent” has a cute running gag based on Ned Kelley.
