I love the SAFETY I feel in my gated community, but I hate the HOA gestapo for citing me for putting out my trash bin an hour too early!

If you’re not a bee, don’t move into the HOA-ive.

Many HOA board members suffer from what I call “Hall Monitor Syndrome” which is characterized by letting petty power go to one’s head.

Almost all people desire power. Some are willing to do anything to get it. For them, it’s a matter of what price they sell out for. For some dictators, it’s world domination, for others it’s control of their political party and yet some will sell out their principles to be voted captain of the bowling team.

Power is addictive. The more you get the more you need. Too much isn’t enough. It’s like a cancer; it starts slow and then consumes you alive.

A trouble-making, first century Jew put it this way, “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul.” I think he was talking about soul in the spiritual sense, but it still makes sense if you think about soul being whatever it is that makes you who you are and whatever it is that allows you to experience joy in life.

Actually, if you check photos you will see that all cells in a hive are round, not octagonal. (Thanks QI !)

We’ve lived our whole lives so far in our cells. We’ve never been out.

I hope this doesn’t mean we won’t be getting out on time.

It’s because you’ve ruined the symmetry of six other cells for your selfish circle. :)

From the outside down here in Australia I just cannot see the point of HOA’s for stand alone buildings. Apartment blocks are a different matter of course because of the different circumstances
