/// While they’re out Picking Flowers in May,

Mattie shows her young sister the way

    to create a bouquet

    for the wedding today:

Her “best friend” to her ex-fiancé.

/// To show all that she bears no ill feeling,

the bright blooms which she picks are appealing,

    and arranged with great care

    so the bride’s not aware

of the fresh poison oak they’re concealing.

The blooms are so fragrant and pretty

    That neither young woman figgers

The patch where they’re then standing

Is crawling with legions of chiggers.

    .

And later when red bumps appear

    And they’re itching like crazy,

They might pluck a few flowers

And rub in some petals of daisy.

    .

Lavender sprigs can give soothing relief.

    Besides their smelling so nice

    Some swelling they do lessen

    In immediate absence of ice.

    .

And, Ladies — beware the sting of some bee,

As often is said, “The bee stings are free.”

There’s a place not far from me with a very similar view……except for the three feet of snow on the ground. Spring is still a ways off, but maybe by the time the snow has melted Ishmael will have learned his lesson and be allowed back into the fold./s Hope he is doing well.

They might look like weeds to you, but to me they look like money.

    Picking Flowers

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:Paintings by Daniel Ridgway Knight" site=commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string 1.53, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3097 (March 15, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 7 works by this artist have been used here, the November 14, 2014, strip bring the prior, the last of 6 by him shown in 9 days here, 1 of 4 not currently in the blog. GoComics has deactivated the hyperlinks and removed the new lines in my comment there; but, perhaps the text remains informative.

I find with these new polymer bills, you don’t have to launder the so much as just wipe them down with a spray of Lysol and a soft cloth.
