I wore corduroy pants in elementary school. Unfortunately, I went to elementary school in the 80’s when corduroy pants were derided among my peers. But what was worse was being a teenager in the 90’s, when corduroy pants were cool again. I couldn’t wear them because I was too much of a corduroy martyr who had been scarred for life. So I ended up choosing brooding anger instead of hip fashion, which is too bad because all things being equal, I really do like corduroy.
Ha!! Couldn’t wear pants to school back in MY day! But this reminds me that I need to replace most of my cords, because the cords are wearing off. Sigh…thanks for actually featuring something I still do today—make corduroy music!
I remember shocking myself with the static one dry days. My best memory of Cords. I was in the Army stationed in Heidelberg Germany 78-81. I had bought these black cords with wide ribs at a mall there. They were very expensive (80 USD). Well, the third washing I accidentally splashed bleach on them. So I got a idea to save them and emptied the bleach bottle on them evenly. It worked sort of the color was now a light grey. I quickly rinsed them in the laundry sink several times. Next a couple of rinses and a wash. They were so comfortable after that. Until about a month and a half later. The ribs separated as I wore them. Luckily The first sergeant saw me and said I was not going out dressed like that. I had not made it out the barracks door when this happened.

Way back in Junior High school I had a pair of Levi’s corduroys. Where do they fit on the cool spectrum?

So glad to live in a rich and glorious future where corduroy pants (for women) (sometimes) come in colors like red and dark green and black.
