Thems smart wings. According to the thought balloons, the butterfly’s brains are in the wings.

I’m not sure that’s really true. If it were, we’d have blizzards all year round!

“The Butterfly Effect” causing a hurricane is one thing, but do not step on one!

Since butterflies live on all continents except Antarctica, I wonder how they narrowed it down to just the one particular butterfly? Actually, that poor maligned butterfly is the fall guy used as an example of the mathematical Chaos Theory: Slight changes can result in large consequences. Butterflies may never live down the evil attack on their peacefully innocent behavior. – ;-)

I sneezed in the womb when my mom was stationed on Moonbase Alpha (American Sector) in 1999 (before the Columbia Shuttle disaster). Now China has uncontrolled COVID. Science is amazing!

If a computer model shows that the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings can cause a hurricane, what that actually shows is that the model is wrong (or at least that it doesn’t apply at that level).

Nobody thanks the butterfly that stopped a hurricane by being at the right place at the right time.

Hi Winnipegger. I can’t imagine that it would apply at any level. Our fluttering butterfly is a nothing more than a simile, an abstraction. But assuming it could be done, the programmer would first have to determine which butterfly caused the hurricane. Then (s)he would have to program all the multitudes of variables between the fluttering and the actual hurricane. Then any and all other possible causes would have to be eliminated. So you’re correct — whichever way it comes out, the model is wrong. Good Job and Best Regards — smile.
