Frank watches as the ‘group outing’ turns into two parallel flirtations, and wonders if he can make it shore if he swims for it. And honestly, even if he doesn’t it might still be better than the alternative.

Humphrey was constantly frustrated in his Summer job as “gondolier” to romancing couples on the scenic canal. An aspiring poet in the style of William Wordsworth and other quality poets in those years, it pained him to endure the silly doggerel these pompous business clerks drooled to their empty-headed shop girl dates.

It made him want to jump overboard and swim for shore. Maybe he would drown, and afterward his poetry discovered, he would become as famous as Percy Shelley.
