Must have been thinking about closing time.

I thought another thing to frighten Andy was to get employment.

AND that too

Andy’s mum in law, ringing the time bell as she hands him the broom to sweep out the bar. Andy triple fright!

A beer delivery strike would shatter Andy!

His Mum-in-Law moving in while they redo her place. For two weeks or more.

And Flo’s mum. Now that’s REALLY scary.

At closing time, Andy’s had too much of “Dutch courage” to be afraid any longer!

Why? He’s often unconscious by that point. I’d think his mum-in-law at the door would give him more of a fright.

Getting a job wouldn’t frighten him – as he knows that’ll never happen. Closing time, however is a known event that will definitely happen, so horror for him exists.

What a scaredy-Capp!!

Probably thought it was a bill collector.

Closing time…you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here.

Why would closing time frighten Andy? He’s usually on the floor anyway.

Actually there are a lot of things that frighten him: getting a job, having to do something other than drink, helping his wife, loving his wife, being decent, being human, being productive; just to name a few.

It could be Andy’s guilty conscience that cause him to be startled, but we all know that such is not a possibility.

The ghost of boozes past scared him…

THAT, and that CURSED CANAL!!!!!

Andy would probably freak out over an empty beer bottle.
