I had no idea traces of blue cheese could show up that long after the fact. I would start putting together a time capsule for future researchers to analyze, but I think my neighbours would complain.

Regarding blue cheese that’s twenty-seven hundred years old, imagine equally ancient Buffalo chicken wings with which to dip into said cheese as a dressing.

Blue Cheese. By FAR the most vile tasting thing I’ve EVER tried. I’ll never understand how something that tastes like barf to me can be so loved by so many. BUT, if they like it they are more than welcome to my share. I love Avocados but I know people who despise them. My point is this. Everybody has different tastes, those they love and those they hate.

So, in 2700 years humans haven’t figured out a way to keep all cheese from getting moldy?

There’s a story about how Michael Jordan s responsible for the introduction of long basketball shorts. Previously it was customary for players to wear shorter pants while playing. Jordan has a supersition about his University of North Carolina shorts and would always wear the same shorts while he played. When he went pro he was told he had to wear the team uniform while playing. MJ got around this by wearing longer shorts and his U of NC shorts under his uniform. Michael was the most popular player of his generation and everyone wanted to imitate him so it became common for all the players to wear longer shorts.

These samples are fossilized. I want to know who before THEM studied and figured out, and then categorized all of the bits to know the difference between blue cheese and/or meat or bread!!! SHEESH!

Please DON’T READ this post if you are easily grossed out. Scientists and physicians and others interested in human history or even current human problems often did whatever they had to do to get information. For instance, ancient physicians studying patients with diabetes discovered that sugar was leaving the body because they sipped the patients’ urine and finding it was sweet.

I’m certainly no expert on analyzing ancient substances, but I think part of the process comes about because as things deteriorate, they break down into their original chemicals. The chemicals can then be compared to those present in the modern equivalents. Pretty much all human body functions involve chemicals, a fact which worried me when I first started studying human anatomy for nursing classes, since I’m not very good at chemistry.
