I had a job like that, but it was contract and my three-month contract that lasted 3.5 years ended. They have since changed their culture for the worse, and every one I knew is gone.

I like my “job.” I do volunteer work at my local hospital with my dog doing pet therapy. It doesn’t pay in money, but it does pay in so many other ways. Seeing the joy and comfort my dogs offers to staff and patients and visitors is more than worth every dollar I don’t get paid.

I am usually good at sizing up a company and the job at the interview. I’ve even requested going back after the offer to get more information from those who would be my staff and coworkers.

So, I’ve rarely wound up in a job that I didn’t like. The problem is that most of the companies either went under or got bought out or I got caught in a massive reorganization. I can honestly say that I have never left a company I’ve joined.

And then you wake up. Groan. Oh well, it’s Friday after all. Trudge to work, zip home, early.

I have all that and in addition I get the blame for the work that my co-workers were supposed to do and did not do.

Most of my jobs have been like that. Some better than others, but I usually enjoy what I’m doing and I’m good at it and my managers have been intelligent people who recognize that.

The trick is to find a job that is willing to pay for what you like to do. Hopefully you like to do more than just sleep on the couch in the evening. :-)

But seriously, there are career paths for almost any activity, although for some (especially in the performing arts) you may need to come close to world-class level in order to earn a lot of money doing it. But on the other hand, if you just want to earn enough to live comfortably and don’t care about getting rich, then you don’t need to go all the way (but you still need to work hard at whatever it is you’re doing).

This even includes “menial” jobs. Like food service (you can manage a restaurant or two and eventually buy a franchise) or administrative (executive assistants can earn a good living). But like everything else, you need drive and ambition to push yourself up the ranks to the level where you can live comfortably off of the income.

I had that, then I was “let go”. Easy jobs are hard to keep. Hard jobs are easy to find.

That’s why it’s called “WORK” and not “fun.” You are there for a paycheck, not a good time.

Its been my experience that people who enjoy their work are having an affair with the boss, are related to the boss, hate their home life or (the true minority) really like their jobs

I thoroughly enjoy my work, and get along great with all my co-workers…(well, actually, since I’m self employed and have no employees, I guess the second point is moot!)
