I miss new daily FoxTrot and the subtle jokes Amend inserted…like Andy reading a “Thyme” magazine.

The only Doonesbury comic I found amusing was when Gary Trudeau was mocking the handwriting recognition on Apple’s first personal digital assistant: the Newton MessagePad 100. If you had the MessagePad 130, if you write out “EGG FRECKLES”, highlight it and tap Assist, it displays the easter egg that Gary sent to Apple as a show of no hard feelings.

Years ago, after complaints from both camps, The Indy Star removed both “Doonesbury” and “Mallard Fillmore” from the comic pages. As “Mallard” moved farther and farther from a conservative paradigm to a deranged right-wing paradigm more gripes came in. At length, The Star relegated “Mallard” to the trash can, where it belongs. Meanwhile the “Doonesbury” reruns are back with the rest of the comics. There were also tensions about Varvel’s cartoons, too. Varvel “retired” a few years ago; that was an improvement to The Star’s editorial pages. As regards Varvel, one wonders: How anyone so smart can be so lacking in wisdom?

A greater understanding of politics dovetailed nicely with an appreciation for Doonesbury.

Doonesbury was way to political for me—I read the comics for fun and enjoyment.

God forbid that we confront our children with the truth when it would make them uncomfortable. Anyone who does that should be fired – MAGA.

That is exactly what happened in our local newspaper (and others too, I think), when Trudeau ran the “Reagan’s Brain” arc…

Pervez Musharraf died February 5 of this year. He was President of Pakistan at the time that this strip was writtenhttps://www.britannica.com/biography/Pervez-Musharraf

Doonesbury has faded into obscurity in the internet era. Just too un-memable, I guess.

Doonsbury should be banned from all comic sites, put it in The Lenin Sickle Daily, editorial section…

Haven’t read ‘Doonesbury’ in years, can’t say I miss it. In the 1980’s, I preferred ‘Bloom County’ anyway.
