Nancy is in INCREDIBLE shape for her age!

Nobody has the flexibility they had when they were a teenager, when they’re in their 50’s.

Sadly, most don’t appreciate it when they’re young. You think you’ll have it forever.

    .

So what will the new arc be for tomorrow? Moony Roomies?

Ah, to be young and flexible again. Now, I could see a quarter lying on the floor and think, “Nah, not worth it.”

Hmm. Usually in these kinds of scenarios, it’s just the opposite: the kids think they’re better than their parents at something physically demanding, then it turns out the parents actually leave them in the dust.

Luann, your mom does not have that flexibility she once had when she was in her 20’s

Both ladies are in excellent shape!

Luann is almost (old) Tiffany size.

    By the way.

Okay, Nancy, just hand that little exercise monkey a dust mop, or some window spray and a cloth, or any instrument of cleaning, and see how fast she shuts down.

Nancy looks to be in great shape for one whose hinges are rusty!!

BTW, most of today’s teens are flopped down in chairs staring at their “dumb” phones than exercising!!

It’s important to keep up on those balance exercises.

I spent a year down because of hip problems/surgery. And then I had a fall. My latest tests show my balance needs to improve.

Exercise is the key to improvement.

Looks like Luann and Nancy just started exercising together. Great idea! Nancy is sad because she can’t keep up the time, I hope this doesn’t discourage her enough to stop. It will take some time, but if the two do exercises together regularly, Nancy will be able to do them almost like her daughter. Then it will be a pleasant time together, not a tragic one where she only see the effects of advancing age, followed by envy and regret. I hope Luann encourages Nancy to continue, she definitely could use kind words and a hug.

It is way tiime for G & K to stop depicting Luann as totally clueless. She’s likely 20, not 13.

I can identify with Nancy here. My physical therapist had us sit down the other day and told us to bend forward and put our palms on the floor. He was the only one in the group who could do it. I couldn’t even reach the floor with my fingers.

Nancy keeps her weight in check, but not exactly in physical fitness. Physicians and trainers say folks can get into a training routine at any age.

Going from doing nothing to getting in shape when you’re older is discouraging. It’s much easier to keep your youthful flexibility by remaining active all your life.

Luann shouldn’t be arching her back like that in the last frame. Keep it flat for that exercise.

I never was very flexible and four years of yoga in my 30s just made it clear that I never would be. 40 years later, I’m still alive and that counts for something.

Many years ago I was stocking at the store where I worked and squatted down to reach the bottom. As I was finishing, 2 older ladies were walking past as I popped up to standing with no effort. They were both sighing to each other “oh do you remember when we could do that?” Sigh, that’s me now. I squat very infrequently, if I’m actually sitting on the floor I can get up- it’s not pretty but I can get up! I liken it to a toddler!

It’s funny and I can relate as most of us older codgers can, but it’s best their doing it together. For all the shade cast here, Lu and her parents are clearly healthy in their relationships, nutty, but fun.

It’s definitely discouraging to pit yourself against your teenage daughter. Even if it’s just competing with her in your own mind. Nancy should seek out other ladies closer to her age. Better yet, these kind of “workouts” are rather dull. How about taking up a sport that allows you to work flexibility, strength, balance, musicality, glamour and camaraderie? What is that sport?, you may ask. Figure skating (or Ice Dancing)! Especially anyone who skating on frozen ponds for fun in $10 skates as a kid….YOU are the people who will be amazing at this. Yes, adults skate too! (And have their own competitions, events, shows, etc).

10 years ago as I was shopping with my size zer0 daughter I felt huge, size 18, next to her. Today I get her cast-off clothes. She has exquisite taste. I was determined to get fit after that.

They should be wearing shoes if they aren’t doing only floor work. This is one way my child breaks toes, and she breaks them way too often.

I don’t do “exercise”, what I do is called post surgery rehab. I’ve been doing “post surgery rehab” for about 5 years now. The difference is that I think I deserve a senior citizen break on the difficulty of the routines. After all, I’m not trying to become a Navy Seal.

It’s okay, Nancy. You’re not a teenager or just-recently-ex-teenager like Luann. But you are in great shape and look fine for a Mom of two married to a middle-aged dorky husband and helping run a business. Just keep on doing as much exercise as you can!
