Alpaca wool is warm like sheep wool, but is soft and silky — not at all itchy. It is also temperature-regulating … keeps you warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather.

However, you do get the urge to spit at others.

I suggest you make products that you can sell during cold periods instead…

wool—and alpaca—as scratchy may be true for the coarser fibers (of wool), but so much of my daily wardrobe is wool if it were itchy I would have to be either a masochist or a lover of high functioning comfort. and I’m not a masochist.

I knit, and I wish I could afford to buy a few skeins of alpaca wool so I could make myself a nice pullover.

If your swim wear is scratchy, take it off.

Quality sheep’s wool, properly cleaned, carded, and spun does not scratch or itch. I have several friends who herd sheep, and that conclusion comes from personal experience with their wool, as well as that from other sources.

And its hollow fibers also help remove sweat, which cotton does not. I suspect that that’s not much different from alpaca wool, which I haven’t experienced.

I will admit to having experienced scratchy woolen (presumably sheep’s) blankets as a child, but they were military surplus, which leaves me wondering about the military procurement process.

Of course, alpacas spend the summer regrowing their wooly coats for Winter. They are sheared at the end of Spring, so they will be cool in the Summmer.
