Reminds me of Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom. Marlin Perkins always stayed behind the bush observing while Jim did things like Steve Fury is doing here.

Here, the fire ants have learned to keep their mounds below the lawn mower height, making them hard to spot. Also, I used to use Amdro, until I watched a fire ant pick up a granule and carry it across the driveway away from the mound about six feet, drop it, then go back and get another and go it again. Then I noticed the ants were carrying most of the granules away into the lawn instead of down into the mound.

The trick to amdro usage is to sprinkle around the mound without alarming the ants. It doesn’t need to be a huge amount either. Just don’t disturb the mound so they won’t equate those granules as the threat to their mound! Come back in a couple of hours to check and see if the granules are gone or if it was a fairly big mound (so you had to put out a wider area of sprinkles) come back the next dayto see if the granules are gone. Seems to work for us here in Central Texas.
