Sounds like the prof. I had for History of Great Britain. I found myself making hash marks for every time he said “and uh” instead of taking notes about the angles, saxons and jutes. I learned more from independent reading than from that class. Fifty years after getting my degree in English Education, I’m still reading books about the history of Great Britain, so at least he didn’t kill my love for the subject.

Hated history in high school because yes, the teacher was boring. Ended up loving history in university and majored in History for a few years due to an interesting and engaging professor. I ended up writing for a historical radio show for public radio, and contributing to two history anthology books. Yes, sometimes, it is the teacher and not the subject. History doesn’t just cover wars and politics, but also food, fashion, cars, culture, movies, TV shows, architecture, art, design, and language. Everything has a history. Only the boring teachers focus ‘just’ on wars and politics.

Sounds like someone is destined to repeat history – class.
