I have tried to take up running over the years. Pretty much stuck to the occasional 5K. My wife did a half and wanted to do a full so I thought it would be fun to spend our vacations going to runs she wanted to do and I would do an associated 5K. I’ve never been a runner, told a personal trainer once that the only way I really run is if someone made me angry and I was chasing them down. She asked what if someone was chasing me and I responded with they’ll just catch me anyway only then I will be winded and tired. Better to just let them catch me while I’m fresh so I could take less punches before knocking them down and sitting on them.
I can relate to Dean on this one. Back in high school I was given a D my first semester in gym class. When I asked the coach why, his reply was that he “didn’t see me kicking butt in football”. I was a kid with not one milligram of extra fat, loved to hike, bicycled everywhere, and had taken up running. Nonetheless, the “coach” was giving me the same grade as if I were some overweight couch potato on the grounds that I wasn’t “kicking butt” in football.
That taught me a lot about “phys-ed”. It had nothing to do with keeping kids fit and healthy.
Ah, the “President’s Physical Fitness Test”. I was mighty fast in the 50 yard sprint, but one of the last in my class in the 600 yard run. Basic training “improved” my long distance times…
15 minutes at their age should be a breeze. I had to do it in 6:30 in college. Once I ran a 6:30 and another time a 6:29. When I trained beforehand I was able to get well under 6 minutes.

So that’s what, 6.5 km/h? That seems pretty do-able, and you could mostly walk it.

Um, can I petition to ride a bicycle downhill for a mile instead?

You finish in 20 minutes with a brisk walk, so 15 minutes doesn’t seem very hard.

I did the 1500 meters ( 100 meters short of a mile) in 4 minutes and 11 seconds. But …that was in university. It would take me a week now. lol
