At first I would beg my parents to go to day camp. Their answer was (believe it or not) “parents who send their children to camp don’t love them as much as we do you.”
Finally got them to send me to a local day camp. I was miserable and hated it. I am more of a sit around and read person then run around person. I got through the summer.
A couple of years passed and I begged them to send me to a different local day camp. They gave in. I would come up to their bedroom while they were sleeping and whisper "I don’t want to go in the “P double O L” and my 5 yr younger sister had been sent to the camp since I was going there.
Another couple of years passed and I begged to go to sleepaway Girl Scout camp (2 weeks) – I knew the fact it was a sleep away camp would make it okay. I would write postcards home that read “come and get me” and to my sister “Tell mom and dad to come and get me”. They did not.
Camp was horrible. I was not one who liked the idea of "They make you do what they want you to do when they want you to. " I was sort of child who at (the second day camp) would send back my peanut butter sandwich if it was, again, with jelly on it. (PB and J is disgusting, PB alone is heaven and has been and continues to be my go to lunch for the entire of the Covid time.)

Most parents would be devastated about not seeing their kids for months.
