When a very close friend and associate of The Count tried to enlist in the United States Marine Corps, the recruiter told him that he was underweight but lied about his weight telling the lad he would put it on in boot camp. The recruiter was right. The stubble headed Boot ate everything he could get his hands on three times a day (and VERY quickly) packing on about a dozen pounds of muscle. All the Boot’s uniforms had to be re-tailored before graduation and going home on leave. True story.

In the good old USA back in the draft era, the weight loss was after they reported for intake.

Never apologize for good eating. If the Army doesn’t want you, you get to live a life of never doing pushups again. WIN!!
