My mother (who learned it from her mother) was notorious for bringing things up in an argument with my dad, me or my little brother that happened years in the past that she refused to let go. When my wife and I got married I told her that we would argue, discuss or debate an issue for as long as it took to get it worked out, but after it was worked out, that was the end of it and it would not be brought up again at another time.
Thus far, in nearly 47 years of marriage, we’ve had (I think) three arguments. Oh sure, we get irked with each other upon occasion, but those are few and far between.
