Honestly, other countries should have systems like that, if prisons are actually meant to encourage rehabilitation.

Of all the Beatles songs to which I’ve listened, I don’t think I’ve heard of “Martha My Dear.”

As for Brazilian prisons, imagine criminally insane bookworms thereat.

Wings’ hit “Jet” was also about a pet dog. Go figure.

Back in 1970, I took Driver’s Ed in highschool. The car we used was a new Ford LTD, advertised as “as quiet as a Rolls Royce”. We were driving on the new Interstate 65, I was at the wheel. The teacher fell asleep. When he woke up, he noticed that I was driving 95 mph. Can you imagine driving down the highway, and seeing a “Driver’s Education Vehicle” tearing down the road? To this day, I chuckle to think of it.

It had no sound system in it like a radio or CD player?

That sounds like a good system for rehabilitating prisoners.

I’m interested in the Rolls Royce factoid, did the silence make people more prone to motion sickness because we need sound to work with our sense of balance? I know our ears are used in both senses but I didn’t realize they were linked in that way.

How does silence make you sick?

Is there any judgement on a) what they choose to read or b) what conclusions they draw from their reading. I mean, not all reading is rehabilitating!

Theu can’t do that in America because it would offend and leave out the poor prisoners who don’t know how to read.

I am skeptical about the Rolls Royce quietude making people sick. Seems unlikely.

I hate when good people get knocked off the board. People who are happy and don’t denigrate other posters and “just want to have fun”.
