I wonder how many people know why you might look a horse in the mouth… and then why it might be ungroovy to do that to a horse that’s a gift.

A horse’s mouth is a gateway to understanding and maintaining the overall health of the horse. Practising key routines helps to ensure the horse stays happy and healthy.Plus, knowing a little history gives insight as to why it is important for horse owners to keep up with the routines.

I know etiquette says you should never do this.

But does it say where you should look a gift horse?

Alway look a gift horse in the mouth…

“idiom itself probably stems from the practice of determining a horse’s age from looking at its teeth. It would be rude to receive a horse for your birthday and immediately examine its mouth in front of the person who gave it to you, as if you were trying to figure out the value of your gift.
