We should not forget Trim, who helped Matthew Flinders on his circumnavigation of Australia and is now immortalised by a statue at the State Library of NSW, behind the statue of Flinders himself.

Another true bestseller is Homer’s Odyssey, about the adventures of a tiny blind cat with a zest for life.

    Great strip today!

Also – Sandi Ward has written several books showing life from a cat’s perspective. I highly recommend them.

I like the way she drew Dewey as the real cat he was!

Our new cat Cocoa has the cutest swagger strut to her walk, even though she isn’t really a kitten anymore.

Let’s not forget the only cat to win the Dickin Medal, Simon, the HMS Amethyst’s ship’s cat, who was awarded the medal for “gallantry under fire” and for the disposal of many rats despite shrapnel injuries during the Yangtze Incident in 1949.

My working girl is a dog, not a cat, but today is our hospital therapy dog day. We should try to go again tomorrow.

Cats have worked as mousers for almost as long as people have been storing grain. They are all over the planet because they have served on sailing vessels. It is very likely that calico and ginger cats are as widespread as they are because Vikings liked the colorful cats.

Cats have held other jobs too. Search YouTube for Jackson Galaxy’s video titled “Top 10 Working Cats (…with Jobs!)”
