Did that part when I was a few years older than he. Then reversed course and climbed down. It was and still is called the ‘chicken syndrome’, but somehow I have never regretted that decision.

At least they have pool high dives allowed in that state Frank and Ernest are in.

I remember a great episode of Mr. Bean, when he wanted to try the high dive. Really funny stuff!

Due to stinking lawyers and sue happy citizens, these high dives have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Back in the late ‘40s, my cousin Frederick [who frequently got me into trouble & walked innocently away] tried to teach me to do a back dive. First try: edge of pool—nope, twist to land face forward. Second try: low dive [4 ft.]—nope, twisted around too much again. After 4 or 5 attempts, Frederick suggested I try it from the high dive [11 ft.], since I looked so funny flailing in the air. I’d never gone up there before, but, if Frederick suggested it, it should be ok, right? WRONG! But I walked out to the end of the board, looked around at how far I could see, turned around and flung myself backward. Kinda fun, until I hit the water on my back. Apparently, the S*M*A*C*K!!! was heard by the lifeguard at the far end of the pool, so he came running. Meanwhile, as I swam underwater back to the edge of the pool, I cried a lot because my back stung so badly…but the water cooled it down by the time I got to the edge of the pool and climbed out. The life guard asked if I was ok & I said, “Yes,” and then walked stiff-backed to where Frederick and a bunch of other kids had gathered. They greeted me with laughter for how funny I had looked and with looks of admiration at how brave I had been! So, go ahead Ernest; the gang will love you for it!!
