plastic in and of itself is not bad. reusable- cleanable storage. the problem is the disposable culture that says ‘throw it out’ I remember the old glass milk bottles. you’d put out the empties to be collected and cleaned and milk would come in cleaned ones.
I once heard of the discovery of a “universal solvent” – it would dissolve anything. The inventor gave up ‘cause he couldn’t find anything to keep it in.
If only. I’ve heard a comedy routine where Mr. and Mrs. Noah are discussing and arguing over which animals to save. Mrs. Noah wants to save a certain obscure animal, which Noah vetoes because “all they do is eat plastic and exude gasoline”.
Really ironic that most of us are reading this comic on a monitor that’s mostly plastic. Those reading it in an actual newspaper wouldn’t be able to do so without plastic lithography screens used to produce offset printing plates. And my replacement knee really depends on plastics like polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon).
The Earth plus Plastic. The Earth doesn’t share our prejudice towards plastic. Plastic came out of the Earth! The Earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the Earth allowed US to be spawned from it in the first place: it wanted plastic for itself, didn’t know how to make it, needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old philosophical question: “Why are we here?” PLASTIC!!!
Scientists and inventors never look ahead. Look at the EV. Everybody complains about recharging. Why recharge, they should have made stations where you can go in, quickly pull out your low battery, swap it and take off? The company would recharge it for a later customer. No, you buy a $70K + vehicle, drive it 200 or 300 miles if you are lucky and then have to charge it for hours. Stupid. And don’t put any weight in, you will get half the distance.
Wiz, there is a wide range of animals that “eat” plastic, including fish, sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, whales, birds, elephants, hyenas, zebras, tigers, camels, and cattle.
Sadly, none can break down and digest plastic. Even if their digestive systems could break down plastic, there is zero nutrition. All will ultimately die primarily due to gastric obstructions.

How times have changed, there was a time when plastic being indestructible was a good thing. It does show how short-sighted we can be.

Perhaps it would just be easier to sabotage the plastic making factories around the world. There can’t be that many of them.

Plastic is one of the greatest inventions of all time. It is not plastics fault that people litter.
