I started playing trumpet in 5th grade. We moved around a bit, so I was in several bands in schools. Played my trumpet in church, along with my brothers, who played instruments as well…piano, sax, guitar, trombone. We were our own band in church! I played my trumpet well into my 40’s before giving it up due to hearing loss. I look back on whether it was “cool” or not…hey, we loved using our talent! That’s what made it cool.

Being good at something brings pleasure in doing it. Maybe those defining ‘cool’… ain’t.
