Old sportsmen never die; they just take up pickle ball.

That age came and went for me before the game was a craze.

Not too surprisingly, the sport is growing. It has taken over whole days at local Y’s, almost replacing basketball or volleyball. Almost every month one reads of a new facility. A friend said he just enjoyed being out with people his own age who were more interested in playing and joking than just sitting and moping about how dull life had become. Seems to work so it’s definitely good therapy for some.

With all the injured players we know, we now call it crippleball.

For people who just have to remain passionately competitive to the end.

You mean deaf enough that the noise doesn’t bother me?

Pickleball generates noises at the 70 dBA level which is like a loud dishwasher. Such noises are considered annoying for any continued period of time. This has become a major point of contention with the advent of public pickleball courts being introduced into neighborhoods. However, there is no real reason why quieter rackets and balls could not be designed.

Tennis generates only 50-60 dBA which is considerably quieter. This is the range of normal conversation sounds. Note this means that pickeball players must shout to be heard over the game and this adds to the noise problem.

Pickled balls? Reached that stage shortly after getting married.
