Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for August 04, 2012
Transcript:
Cathy: I have brochures on 42 cars, minivans and sport utility vehicles...comparison surveys from 25 magazines...17 articles downloaded from four on-line services......98 opinions on the brilliance or idiocy of leasing versus buying, including documentation on the ramifications on insurance, warranties and taxes. In three weeks, I've collected 6,000 new pieces on knowledge, and am further from owning something to drive than when I began! I'm on the information superhighway, however I'm going backward, and I'm sitting on a bus.

They say that if you give people less choices, it’s easier to make decisions. Sometimes i think all of this information gives people “decision paralysis” where they’re unable to make a decision, so they don’t make one.p.s. All of Cathy’s information is online, so I hope at least that would have changed in 15 years.Good morning, kittycatpawsare! We’re here, so I hope you’re okay now! Most of us just aren’t up at 2am (Eastern Time) (with the exception of KFG with her crazy schedule or a sometimes restless Aaron). Good morning, Gator, Susan and Aaron!Hello to GsMom, KFG, Billy, rgcviper, lindz.coop, hendelca, Mona, serenasakitty, gmforde, soonergal, lippyfish, Mai Tai, Willi Nilli, mollie, AnonaMona, Bronzepony, simpsonfan2, legaleagle and all the other Cathy nuts rolling around here today!

OCD scaled up for a nutjob. Lady sitting beside Cathy ought to cover the eyes of the little kidling. He could be scarred for life.
Morning Susan early bird on a Saturday. LMB and I are just back from riding into town on my bike. We made a morning of it and met Mom and Dad at a diner for breakfast. Morning lightenup (or more likely, afternoon lightenup).
kittycatpawsare 8 hours ago wow. That would have been about 3:00 a.m. for me and I was actually sleeping. Yeah, it is scarry being alone with Cathy so early in the morning. Even in daylight.
hi mom! :-DNE1956 over 12 years ago
Ouch lightenup you stepped on me while I was typing.

I’m probably even earlier – since I’m on GMT! But I rarely go online before mid-afternoon. Plenty of kitty cat paws here, though, with two big soft furry boys to cuddle.
Hello to everybody else who’s been here already, will be here later, or is here with me right now!
I’ll try not to stand on anybody while I’m here. :-D

I would so stare at Cathy mercilessly until she cleaned up her mess . . . and her OCD. I love our little nutjob but come on, we need a break. Let someone else be a nutjob for a change. Not Aaron or me though. We got reputations to uphold. lightenup could be a nutjob. Yeah. We’d even pay money to see that!
Hi Bronzepony :-)
lindz.coop yes I truly am a little behind in mooning. :-D It’s no fun without Aaron. We have driven by Capital Hill on numerous occasions mooning those who deserve it.

Must admit, if I see something that’s exactly what I want and have been looking for, my instinct is to buy it before somebody else does!
My Other Half, however, is the cautious type. He won’t commit himself to buy until he’s examined every other possible alternative, with all the variations and custom preferences possible, many times over.
By that time, of course, the object has been sold. I suppose he does genuinely save money that way. :-(

Any of that razzleberry pie going spare, Aaron?

I love the internet and all the knowledge it contains on pretty much every subject under the sun but sometimes it seems like having too much information and too many choices is a whole lot worse than having too little information and too few choices! There have been times where I’ve been faced with so many choices/decisions that it’s absolutely paralyzed me with fear at making the wrong one. Whenever that happens, sometimes it’s just easier for me to take the path of least resistance (as the old saying goes), make no decision at all and hope for the best! (Of course, that only applies to non-life-changing decisions. Anything of major importance is a different story and that’s when it really helps to have a second opinion — that of my husband — in order to make the (hopefully!) right decision then.)
Aaron: Yum!!! Razzleberry Pie!!!!!!!!!! Haven’t had that in a good long while! :-(
Love, hugs, kisses and many thanks to everyone here for all the support over the last few days! It’s very much appreciated!!!!! That’s why I love my “Cathy” family!!!!! ;-)

Personally, I can relate to this one. Wonder if that makes me a nut-job, too … ? :D

Hi Cathyites!! Agree with lightenup and G’sMom — too many choices! It makes me crazy too. Usually you know what you want before they start throwing all that stuff at you, it’s just a matter of standing your ground. I found that out on the Social Work Licensing Exam I took last week. I had passed the pre-test before the seminar I took, and then totally flunked the post test. Then I started buying everything in sight to help me study and when I finally took the test, none of it helped at all and I just had to rely on the experience and common sense I had used to pass the pre-test before I ever studied at all. TMI and TMC!!

For Mom!, probably reading this on Monday (for those who don’t know, GsMom spends Sunday with her mom):
Billy noticed I didn’t say anything about Mom’s cousin passing. I noticed he didn’t say anything either. I didn’t, because I’m a cancer survivor, after a long and almost lost battle with tumors growing along my spine. Nine years worth, fighting every second, hour, day, week, and year. Yet I lived, but others don’t, even from lesser cancers. That makes some people terrible upset. I’ve been physically abused at times because I didn’t die. So I kept quiet to Mom!.
Billy spends 12+ hours a day in his lab, probing the mysteries, hoping that in his lifetime others will suffer less or not at all. Both of us feel pretty terrible when we know someone lost the battle. But people do pass, and their families look at Billy and ask why. So Billy kept quiet too.
I certainly don’t have the answers. Billy’s love for me and my love for him kept me alive. It’s all I’ve ever known. Billy doesn’t have the answers — yet. But he’s working so many hours a week, searching for the right stuff. It’s there. Elusive. Frustrating.
