We’d give one of our Rottweilers a new squeaky toy and he’d gnaw the squeaker out of it and spit it out. After he got it out, he’d happily chew on the toy and for the most part didn’t tear it up any further. The only thing we could think of is that he didn’t like the noise.
The sound of a squeaky toy is very much like the sound a rabbit makes. My dog is a rabbit dog. She loves her squeakies and rarely removes the squeaker. Sometimes she just plays with them enough that they squeaker falls out. I am lucky – the sound does not bother me. I kind of like it – I know my beagle is happy.
From observation of our dogs, I’ve concluded that the “squeak” is adjusted to sound like a small prey animal giving it’s last. And the dogs can’t get enough of it.

You’ve just been gypped, Buckles, that’s a rubber bone. I guess Paul and Jill don’t want you to choke on the pieces of a real bone.
