Take a sledgehammer to it like I did with the last PC (Perpetual Crap) I’ll ever own. Inveterate Mac owner now. And Apple owes all my loyalty to Windows Vista.
Around here we have regular pickup of garbage, can bottle newspaper recycling, and yard waste, but we have to bring electronics to the township’s sanitation center to get rid of it. We have done this twice. It is almost as bad as going into Ft Knox.i
First – only certain types of vehicles are permitted. If one is going there in a van it has to have windows all around and has to have seats in the back. It cannot have a roof rack (though height is not a problem) – as I guess , this is because it has to be a personal van not a business van.
Second – when we get to the “sanitation center” (aka town dump) at the other end of the road one is stopped at a security booth. We have to show ID to get in and are given a permit. We then are allowed to drive further in towards the drop off.
Third – at the end of the road we have to stop at another booth and submit our pass from the first booth (how the heck would we have gotten this far without stopping at the first booth and getting the pass?). We are then waved into the area to pull into a parking space and remove what we brought and sort it into the assorted dumpsters around the space.
Fourth, we then leave and have to stop again at the first booth and return the pass.
Okay, my logical accountant’s mind knows that the van requirements and security is not to prevent the recycling from being stolen, but rather because they do not want people who are not residents of our township (they should bring it to their town, village or city drop off for same instead) or are businesses (who have to pay to dump anything) to bring their recycling there and are doing it to save us money in taxes so we are not paying taxes for recycling of those not from our township or are businesses. BUT – it all comes off as some scene in a Peter Sellers’ comedy movie.
