Good point. The values admired on (Un) social media are usually in direct conflict with those of decent, common sense bearing individuals. But they garner ‘likes’ and, in today’s society, that’s all that really matters.
Boys are very careful observers and mimics of all the men or older boys that are in their lives, even if only casually or occasionally. If you come from a family where the men and older boys treated women (Mothers, Sisters, girlfriends) with respect, love, and kindness, then most boys will grow up to try and do the same. I was born in Memphis and lived there some. There is a strong batchelor culture there. Its the only big city set in the middle of hundreds of miles of rural poverty. Young men flock to Memphis in droves for work or hope or for the city life. By that I mean the club lifestyle. Strip clubs, dance clubs, everything a poor young man imagines about city life. But its a seriously destructive culture to fatherless young boys. They see how their batchelor older brothers, cousins, and uncles live. Then they never see women the same…or guns…or casual violence..or false friends…not the way those fortunate to be raised differently in a better place. May god bless and help the poor boy to find a way.
