Actually, that sounds like my senior year. People were actually placing bets – yes, with actual money – that, if I went to the prom, I’d go alone. As much as I wanted to attend prom, since I couldn’t get a date, I didn’t go. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction. (I did try; I even resorted to calling some of my older brother’s friends. I was horribly embarrassed when one of them told me that he couldn’t because he was getting married that weekend!)

If I could go back in time (as all old folks wish at least once), it would be to after high school, not before or during.

I have long told teenagers “Hang on; it gets better. Yes, high school is hell – but unless you join the military or go to prison, this is as bad as it’s likely to get.”

Wish someone had told me that. When I was 17, a friend of my mom (a woman who wore her HS ring at least into her 40s) told me “Why are you complaining? Enjoy yourself; these are the best years of your life!”

“Yes!!”

“Then please shoot me right now.”

I didn’t know they had TicToc way back then.

Tell Paige not to worry, high school’s 4 years go by quickly, then you’re old…

Ahhhh, socialization! So important to the proper upbringing of children. Send them to school because there they are guaranteed proper socialization :(

And yet we allow teenagers on social media nowadays.

You breathe in the wrong way.

Everybody teases you.

Teacher hates your guts, embarrasses and picks on you.

Everybody teases you for getting special attention.

i’m currently in my senior year of high school and i’ve had no dates whatsoever, nobody asks me to go to prom or homecoming, and I don’t ask people if i can go to homecoming
