National Hydration Day They’re predicting highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s, so yes, people better keep hydrated. We have been lucky that we’ve had low humidity and a steady breeze so I don’t notice the heat. But we sure could use some rain.
I have some Nopal ( paddle] cactus on the side of the garage and yesterday I went out and the whole plant was covered with white cotton looking stuff. Found out it was the eggs of the Cochineal bug. They cover their eggs with the white stuff to protect the eggs from the sun. Cochineal is where and how the Native Americans got their red dye. For painting faces and clothing to dying wool for weaving. Needless to say it got a thorough dousing with Insecticidal soap. Ewww
Ouch! Poor Oliver. Looks like they really socked it to him. (Then again, maybe that’s a boot.) On another note, saw three sparrows and a robin while out walking today.

Let Oliver sleep so he won’t be able to wake you up in the spring.

And yes I know you can eat Nopal cactus. But mine is the kind with 2" long spines. And I swear they jump off the plant just to stick you.

How rude of them to give Oliver the boot. ;)

Leave Oliver alone. Hit him in the head like that, and he’s likely to get amnesia and forget about you.

Oliver has a hard head. I’m sure he didn’t feel a thing, just wondered what had awakened him from his beauty rest!
