Mom would walk away and leave me with the plate and I sat until I got tired and ate the stuff anyway. Took longer some times than others but she usually won. Didn’t change my mind about certain foods. I just knew there would not be any more until that was gone. She was right.
One time as I was visiting my mother as an adult, my mom served me something and told me, “Try this, you’ll like it.” I asked, “What does it taste like?” She responded, “I don’t know, I’ve never had it.”
My son sat a the table for over 2 hours refusing to eat peas – I don’t know if he ever ate them or if his mom threw them out as I was called out to work – and to this day, they haven’t told me. That was in 1974
A Mom’s superpower is allow children to “starve” for a few hours, if they don’t eat what is prepared for them. Many people think their kids should live in some kind of “food democracy”, which is insane. That’s how we got a generation that thinks eating takeout pizza two or three times a week is a replacement for a balanced diet.

If I had pulled that when I was a kid, my mother would have replied “And MY superpower is the ability to knock you into the middle of next week.”

Never had a problem raising my kids to eat everything….I’d tell them taste first, then decide.

Growing up, we had two choices, “eat it, and LIKE it”!

Yeah, I miss her.

When I was a kid, my dinner choices were “what’s in front of you” or “going to bed hungry.” I did have input though.

I will at least taste a food before I decide I dislike it.

I never found shrimp appetizing. Years later I ate some shrimp scampi and had a bad rash break out. I guess my body just knew.
