I am not sure what kind of control a male dog has after smelling the pheromones of a female dog in heat. When my mother was breeding dogs, the male dogs were losing their little doggie minds. I don’t blame Farley one bit for doing what he did in the situation he was in. I do however, enjoy Elly blaming the dog, who has no idea how conception or any of the rest of that works, because MEN!
Is the last line supposed to be some presumption that Michael is already sewing wild oats in college even though he only left a couple of days ago and still presumably hasn’t forgotten about Rhetta yet?
My mom used to wonder if she had any grandchildren out in the world she knew nothing about. I wonder if real sperm donors (that sell their sperm) ever regret not knowing their possible offspring.
Animals and humans are not equals. Animals do not have rational souls. Humans do.
Animals kill other animals in cold blood. Humans have courts and governments to thwart and punish those who murder other humans. John’s snarkiness to one side, it is an apples and oranges comparison.
Actually. Farley should have been “fixed” as soon as he entered the household even if he was a purebred with papers, if he wasn’t brought in as a “breeder” he should have been neutered – and there NEVER a mention of breeding in the strip, that I can remember.
Elly is absolutely correct in that they are responsible for what mischief that Farley might get into. It’s the first time that I have ever seen her either express verbally or demonstrate such responsibility.

That satisfied look on Farley’s face…

Actually, if Connie can make money selling the puppies, Farley should receive a stud fee.

Funny that Michael should be mentioned, right after a discussion about ‘sowing wild oats’…

Maybe they should focus on teaching April that it’s wrong to open the door on a dog pen in someone else’s yard.

From Lynn’s Comments: I got into some trouble with these strips as folks began to clue in to the details of Farley and Sera’s romantic interlude.

Allowing an intact dog to run loose isn’t exactly responsible dog ownership.

Love the smile on Farley in panel 3.

It’s a dog. It doesn’t have human intent.

Don’t blame Farley. It’s that brat April’s fault. She’s turning into a terror. Surprised either dog wasn’t fixed.
